A drug of abuse can be something complicated like an Hallucinogen or Cocaine, or it could be something as simple and common as coffee, alcohol or tobacco.
Everyone who's overage have consumed either coffee or alcohol in their life. But when does it become an addiction? Well it depends on how much and how often you drink them.
In the case of the alcohol people most often drinks it to celebrate, that is the main reason, I think, that they don't know when it's too much and when they should stop drinking. Drinking too much alcohol ends up in you getting drunk, you feel dizzy, you get blurred vision and slurred speech. Some people get so drunk that they pass out from the abuse of it and when they wake up they don't remember a thing. How does the alcohol addiction affects you also depends on your genetics, if you have a close family member who has problems of alcoholism you have a big chance of develop one too. Most of these effects are caused by the dehydration that the body feels when you don't drink enough water,.
When I was younger and stupid I tried cigarettes, just because a few of my friends smoked them. Since then I never smoke again and hated the smell of cigarettes. In fact my brother's girlfriend who smoked a lot made me hate the smell of it, She smoked every minute of the day!
My uncle used to had problems of alcoholism. He would usually call my dad, drunk and crying looking for his advice. Thankfully he entered rehabilitation for his drinking problem about 6 years ago and stop drinking ever since. He said it was controlling his life and that it was enough!
